The last minute transfer saga of once-a-Red Fernando Torres from Liverpool to Chelsea seemed like a perfect reason for more than 200 Liverpool Supporters Club Malaysia to gather at Funky Villa for the Carlsberg-LSCM Viewing Party: Chelsea v Liverpool.
However, the same reason also probably saw 50 people wearing their crisp Torres jerseys – in blue join in the party as the supporters from the Chelsea fan club seemingly wanted to add insult to injury at the departure of our lad from Spain.
The guys from HooHaa.my must have smelt drama as they went along quietly capturing the antics of both sets of fans and getting comments from both sets of fans, as they covered the gathering.
The Chelsea fans fired the first salvo as they began singing about their new #9 in the same tune and words that used to ring around Anfield and wherever LSCM members gathered, with the only change being the mention of the club. Our members responded in many songs, among which were songs about our captain being better than their player of the same number and another song with a historical message included.

In the midst of all this drama, our LSCM members still showed awesome knowledge about Liverpool winning themselves exclusive prizes from Carlsberg and money-can’t-buy autographed merchandises through the a round of Q&As – which seemingly is getting harder as the weeks go by.

Right after that, LSCM gave away the prize to 1st ever Standard Charted-LSCM Online Contest winner to Robert Au Yong.

As always, when You’ll Never Walk Alone was played, our LSCM supporters sung in full voice, some went the extra mile to greater heights as they climbed the bar for the song. A few neutrals watching the game watched in awe as they too considered changing their allegiance towards Liverpool FC.
The first half was painfully uneventful except the challenge on Torres by Daniel Agger which of course caused uproar from the Chelsea camp and the unbelievable miss by Maxi Rodrigues which the LSCM members made it sound like a punch in the gut and the blue side celebrating.
At the interval, more prizes were given away at the 1st Lucky Draw. Several members walked off with drink vouchers, Carlsberg and LSCM merchandise while a freestyle football demonstration went on outside of Funky Villa from Raja Freestyle.
At the start of the second half, the Chelsea fans seemed to have found their voices as they were chanting but at the 66th minute, their faces turned grim as Fernando Torres walked out the pitch and replaced by Salomon Kalou.
Less than five minutes later, our red hot Portuguese midfielder put the ball in the back of the net from a Steven Gerrard cross which went beyond Petr Chec and Branislav Ivanovic whom were distracted by Dirk Kuyt’s early run.
Yes, Raul Meireles’ goal sent our LSCM members in Damansara into a celebratory frenzy – shouting, screaming and hi-fiving everyone in sight, even a traditional Portuguese song was heard being sung in his glory. The blue side of Funky Villa remained quiet.
It stayed that way till the final whistle when we briefly thanked the Chelsea fans for coming and our LSCM members continued celebrations.
At the end of the match, more prizes were given away in the shape of Liverpool FC Training Kits and the Final Score winner walking away with two tickets to the upcoming Masters’ Football Tournament, happening in March.
Till next time,
