Standard Chartered inculcates sportsmanship and team spirit at exclusive football clinic with Liverpool FC legends

Kuala Lumpur, 14 Mar 2011 – Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad (Standard Chartered) today held its exclusive coaching event in conjunction with its sponsorship of EPL Masters Football Cup Malaysia 2011 that ended yesterday.

A01_SCB-Masters_PadangHosted at Padang@One Utama, around 50 young children aged between 7 and 16 years old were invited by Standard Chartered to attend the first day of the school break’s football clinic with Liverpool FC legends Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman.

The football greats put the kids through their paces and taught them the basics of football. They also shared invaluable tips, skills and drills.

"This is a great opportunity to bring the spirit of Liverpool FC and our sponsorship of the club to a group of kids. It’s at the very core of the way we do business to give something back to the community and inculcates sportsmanship and team spirit among them in line with our Here for Good brand promise,” said Norliza Kamaruddin, Country Head, Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia.

The young footballers were kids of the bank’s clients and staff, who were thrilled to come down and get the experience of being coached by the legends.

"When my dad first told me that I’m going for this football clinic, I didn’t believe him," enthused Julian Low who was joined by his brother Julius.

"They are really good, they show us new skills and tricks and they are funny too!” said another participant 16 year old Megat Adam Omar.

Participants received the official Standard Chartered-Liverpool FC football jerseys and tumblers as well as cards signed by the legends.
